The Cricket Cranes began their Hong Kong Tri-Series campaign with a hard-fought three-wicket victory over hosts Hong Kong at the Tin Kwong Road Recreational Ground in Mong Kok.
Chasing a target of 241, the Cranes reached 244/7 in their 50 overs, thanks to a commanding captain’s knock from Riazat Ali Shah and crucial contributions from the middle order.
Hong Kong batted first and posted 240/9 in their allotted 50 overs.
Nizakat Khan led the way with an aggressive 84 off 79 balls, featuring seven boundaries and four sixes. Babar Hayat chipped in with 65 off 91 deliveries, while Juma Miyagi (2/51) and Cosmas Kyewuta (4/56) were the pick of Uganda’s bowlers, ensuring the hosts didn’t run away with the game.
In reply, Uganda’s chase got off to a shaky start, losing Robinson Obuya early.
However, skipper Riazat Ali Shah steadied the innings with a magnificent 84 off 93 balls, hitting six boundaries and three sixes.
Kenneth Waiswa provided valuable support with 43 off 62 balls, while Juma Miyagi’s quickfire 15 off 14 balls sealed the win in the final overs.
The Cricket Cranes will look to build on this momentum as they face Bahrain next in the tri-series, ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League B tournament starting February 4th.
