Elite Secondary Schools Games 2025 Kick Off in Mpigi

The 6th edition of the Elite Secondary Schools Games officially kicked off today, February 14, 2025, in Mpigi, bringing together Uganda’s top-performing school teams for an action-packed weekend of competition.

Featuring seven disciplines—handball, football, volleyball, netball, rugby sevens, and both 3×3 and 5×5 basketball—the tournament marks the first major event on the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) calendar this year.

With teams having reported on Thursday, February 13, the stage is set for three days of intense battles across all categories.

Football remains one of the most anticipated events, with reigning Elite Schools boys’ champions Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA) and FEASSA winners Amus College drawn into the same group, ensuring a high-stakes early showdown.

Boys’ Football Groups

  • Group A: St. Julian High, Bukedea Comprehensive, Jinja Secondary School, Standard High Zzana
  • Group B: Amus College, Jinja Progressive, Kisozi Seed Secondary, St. Joseph Nazareth

Girls Football Groups

  • Group A: Kawempe Muslim, Sacred Heart Gulu, Bukedea Comprehensive, Uganda Martyrs
  • Group B: Amus College, St. Noa Girls, Sheema Girls, Boni Consili Vocational

As the host school, St. Joseph of Nazareth Mpigi has promised top-quality playing conditions. “We are going to give the best in terms of quality, playing facilities, and welfare,” said Julius, head teacher of the host school.

With all teams eager to make their mark early in the season, the tournament is expected to showcase elite talent, fierce rivalries, and thrilling matchups across all disciplines. The games will run until February 16, when champions will be crowned in each category.
