Uganda’s rising stars are set to challenge the best at the Sirikwa Cross Country Classic, the final Gold meeting of the World Athletics Cross Country Tour, set for Saturday February 22 in Eldoret, Kenya.
Leading Uganda’s charge in the women’s 10km senior race is Loice Chekwemoi, the 18-year-old African 3000m steeplechase champion.
Chekwemoi has been in outstanding form, recently winning the Great Chepsaita Cross Country, and will be eager to test herself against elite competition, including Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon and Agnes Jebet Ngetich.
In the men’s 10km senior race, World U20 Championships bronze medallist Keneth Kiprop will be one to watch.

Kiprop has already made a mark this season with victory at the Cardiff Cross Challenge and strong finishes at the Cross Internacional de Italica and Cross Internacional Zornotza.
He will be joined by Martin Kiprotich Magengo, who has been in consistent form, finishing second at the Cross Internacional de Alcobendas and placing well in other European cross-country events.
Uganda’s presence extends to the U20 races as well, with Abraham Cherotich competing in the men’s 8km U20 category.
Cherotich is eager to make an impression in a field that includes Kenya’s world U20 5000m champion Kevin Kiprop.
With top-tier competition from Kenya, Ethiopia, and beyond, Uganda’s athletes have a prime opportunity to showcase their talent on the international stage.
