Hoima Stadium Truck Drivers Protest Delayed Payment, Demand Intervention

The drivers, who were brought in from Kasese, allege that Nexius Company, a subcontractor hired by MS Summa, has failed to pay them for a week’s worth of work.

The drivers, operating Sino trucks, were contracted to transport marram over a 2.5km distance to the stadium construction site in Kyarwiru Cell, Mparo Ward. According to George Nkwasibwe, one of the drivers, each is owed Shs 750,000 per day.

“We were hired from Kasese, believing Nexius Company would pay us on time, but that hasn’t happened,” Nkwasibwe stated, expressing frustration and desperation. “We have been parked here for days, struggling to survive.”

The drivers claim they were abruptly stopped from working two weeks ago and are now facing dire circumstances in Hoima City. Limited parking options for their large trucks have compounded their problems, with constant pressure to relocate from street parking.
