The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has announced the departure of CEO John Bipin Walusimbi, effective February 25, 2024, bringing his tenure to an end just one year after his appointment.

The decision follows a strategic review by the UCA Board aimed at enhancing the growth and development of cricket in Uganda.

Ms. Evelyne Kabongera, currently serving as the association’s Financial Accountant, has been appointed Acting CEO as UCA searches for a permanent successor to lead the Secretariat.

Walusimbi’s appointment in February 2024 was seen as a significant move for Ugandan cricket, coming in a historic year when the Cricket Cranes were preparing for their maiden ICC T20 World Cup appearance.

He was tasked with ensuring that Uganda’s World Cup participation left a lasting legacy while also overseeing the Victoria Pearls’ bid for World Cup qualification.

His tenure, though brief, came at a crucial time for Ugandan cricket, as the sport sought to solidify its presence on the global stage.

A seasoned executive with over 15 years of experience in logistics and finance, Walusimbi brought a strategic vision aimed at increasing Uganda’s international recognition and operational efficiency.

Prior to joining UCA, he held leadership roles at Blink Logistics and KCB Uganda, demonstrating expertise in financial operations, strategic planning, and corporate growth.

In a statement, the UCA Board expressed gratitude for Walusimbi’s contributions and wished him success in his future endeavors.

The search for a new CEO will be closely watched, as the next leader will be tasked with building on Uganda’s recent international strides while strengthening domestic cricket structures.
