Jackson Kavuma has been elected as the new chairman of the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) following a closely contested election at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Kati Kati in Lugogo.

Kavuma, who previously served as UCA’s honorary secretary, will now lead the association for the next two years, taking over from Michael Nuwagaba.

Denis Musali, a former national team player and the UCA communications officer, has been elected as the new honorary secretary, while Lelia Namaganda Ondeko assumes the role of women’s representative after running unopposed.

Kavuma, who was backed by Africa Cricket Club (ACC), outlined key priorities in his manifesto, including improving governance, strengthening Uganda’s competitiveness in international tournaments, and securing land for a new cricket facility.

His victory marks a shift in leadership, with a focus on steering the sport towards One Day International (ODI) status by 2028.

Musali, representing Wanderers Cricket Club, has pledged to enhance the commercial viability of the sport by introducing new tournaments and strengthening grassroots development programs.

The new UCA leadership comes into office at a crucial time with Uganda having made her debut at the T20 world cup and pushing for ODI status.
