Uganda Cranes will take on Mozambique in Cairo, Egypt, on March 20 as part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The match was initially set to be played in Mozambique, but the Confederation of African Football (CAF) deemed the Zimpeto National Stadium unfit to host international matches.

The Mozambican Football Federation (FMF) has since identified Egypt as the primary alternative venue and is awaiting official confirmation from the Egyptian Football Association.

FMF president Feizal Sidat confirmed that a letter has been sent to their Egyptian counterparts, with Algeria also being considered as a backup location.

“We are confident of a positive response from the Egyptian federation. Our plans indicate that we can leave Maputo for Cairo on the 17th. Another alternative will be Algeria, where we’ll play our sixth match,” Sidat stated.

The Cranes, currently on six points alongside Botswana and Guinea, are looking to close the gap on group leaders Algeria and Mozambique, who both have nine points.

Uganda will host Guinea on March 25 in the sixth matchday of the qualifiers.
