Victoria Pearls Off to a Winning Start in LYCA Women’s Day Cup 2025

Hosts Uganda made a strong start to their LYCA Women’s Day Cup 2025 campaign, securing an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Hong Kong, China, at the Entebbe Cricket Oval on Saturday.

Hong Kong, China, opted to bat first but struggled to accelerate against a disciplined Ugandan bowling attack, managing only 75/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Natasha Miles provided resistance with a solid 32, but wickets at crucial intervals restricted the scoring rate.

Immaculate Nakisuuyi led the charge for the Victoria Pearls, taking two wickets while also making her mark with the bat.

Chasing 76 for victory, Uganda made light work of the target, reaching 78/2 in 17.2 overs. Nakisuuyi contributed 26 runs, ensuring the home side cruised to victory with eight wickets in hand.

The second game of the day saw Nepal struggle against Namibia’s bowlers, folding for 92 in 20 overs. Namibia’s Mekelaye Mwatile and Wilka Mwatile were the standout performers, each claiming three wickets to dismantle Nepal’s batting lineup.

In reply, Namibia’s chase was interrupted by rain, reducing their target to 72 from 15 overs. Mekelaye Mwatile continued her all-round show, scoring 26 runs as Namibia reached 71/4 in 14.5 overs to win by six wickets via the D/L method.

Uganda’s Immaculate Nakisuuyi was the standout performer of the day, topping the rankings with 109 points, while Namibia’s Mekelaye Mwatile followed closely with 107 points. Natasha Miles led the batting charts with 32 runs, while Mekelaye Mwatile and Wilka Mwatile dominated the bowling rankings with three wickets each.

Uganda will be back in action on Sunday against Nepal, looking to maintain their winning momentum. Meanwhile, Namibia will take on Hong Kong, China, in the afternoon match, aiming to build on their opening victory.
