The Namilyango College Old Boys Association (NACOBA) Sports Gala, now in its 15th year, celebrated competition, camaraderie, and community spirit at the MUBS grounds on Saturday.

Powered by Guinness, the gala saw 22 cohorts competing across 10 sports disciplines, bringing together generations of Namilyango alumni in an exhilarating day-long event.

Dominating the competition, The Knights (2016-2022 Cohort) emerged victorious, clinching the coveted overall championship trophy. Close on their heels, The Hornets (Class of 2011) and The Lycans (Class of 2017) secured second and third place, respectively, showcasing remarkable skill and teamwork.

Presiding over the day’s festivities, Chief Guest Justice Thomas Ocaya praised the NACOBA community for its enduring spirit of unity and celebration.

“This event reminds us of the importance of not only competition but also fostering friendship and the unbreakable bonds that make the Namilyango experience unique,” he remarked.

A key highlight of this year’s gala was the ladies’ 100m X 4 relay race, which featured sister alumni associations from Trinity College Nabbingo, Gayaza High School, Mt. St. Mary’s College Namagunga, and Maryhill High School, Mbarara.

The Gayaza Old Girls Association proudly claimed victory in this special race, which underscores the event’s inclusivity and celebration of women in the community.

Guinness, a long-standing supporter of sports, added its signature touch to the gala. Dennis Wokorach, representing the brand, said, “This event perfectly embodies what Guinness stands for—creating unforgettable moments that bring people together. It’s our pleasure to be part of an occasion that combines sports and good company.”

NACOBA President Matayo Alex Asiimwe reflected on the association’s growth and its initiatives to strengthen alumni engagement.

“From the NACOBA SACCO to the recent Peregrine Kibuuka Endowment Fund, we’re constantly evolving to support our members and the Namilyango community. This gala not only celebrates our roots but also our shared future,” he stated.

Thanks to the support of esteemed sponsors like Uganda Breweries Ltd, Stanbic Bank, and others, the event seamlessly blended tradition and innovation.

As Uganda’s oldest school, established in 1902, Namilyango College continues to inspire generations, and the NACOBA Sports Gala stands as a shining example of its vibrant alumni network.
