Uganda’s newly renovated Mandela National Stadium athletics track is set to host its second National Athletics Trials of 2025 this Saturday, March 15, starting at 8 AM.
The event, organized by the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF), comes just two weeks after the first successful trials and is expected to attract top talent from Uganda and neighbouring countries.
These trials are crucial for athletes aiming to qualify for major international championships.
With Uganda celebrating 100 years of athletics this year, the competition serves as both a talent discovery platform and a key step for elite athletes looking to meet qualification standards for global events.
The first national trials on March 1 marked the return of track and field events to Namboole after years of renovations.
The upgraded stadium, refurbished for 97 billion Uganda Shillings by the UPDF Engineering Brigade, now boasts a world-class tartan track that has already received praise from top athletes like 2018 World Champion Halimah Nakaayi and Kenyan sprinter Wiseman Were.
Athletes will take part in several events including but not limited to short put, javelin and various track races. Registration for the event is on and can be accessed via the UAF website.
