Stake F1 Team has confirmed the official start date for their new team principal, Jonathan Wheatley, who will take on his role during the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Following his departure from Red Bull Racing last year, Wheatley will begin his duties on April 1st, just days before the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka.
Wheatley, a key figure in Red Bull’s success, announced his move to Hinwil in preparation for Audi’s entry into Formula 1 under the Stake banner in 2026.
The team’s interim management roles have been covered by chief technical and chief executive officer Mattia Binotto, who will step aside once Wheatley joins.
For the 2025 season, Stake features an all-new driver lineup comprising veteran Nico Hulkenberg and rising star Gabriel Bortoleto, the reigning FIA Formula 2 champion.
Expectations are high as the team looks to establish itself as a serious contender ahead of Audi’s much-anticipated arrival.
In discussing the move, Stake expressed confidence in Wheatley’s experience and leadership, which are seen as pivotal for their transition and growth over the next few years.
The team’s ambitions align with their refreshed driver lineup, setting the stage for an exciting season in Formula 1.
Stake enters the new era determined to make a statement on the grid, and all eyes will be on Suzuka as Wheatley takes the reins.
