The FUFA Big League promotion race remains tightly contested after Buhimba United Saints and Gaddafi registered contrasting results in their respective matchday 17 encounters on Thursday.
Buhimba United Saints continued their impressive campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Paidha Black Angels at Kigaaya Playground.
The decisive moment came in the 69th minute when substitute Siraje Ismail struck the only goal of the match, securing three crucial points for Mark Twinamatisko’s side.
The victory propelled Buhimba United Saints to the summit of the 16-team log with 32 points, one ahead of both Blacks Power and Gaddafi. Paidha Black Angels remain fifth, still searching for consistency in their promotion push.
Meanwhile, Gaddafi endured another frustrating outing as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Kiyinda Boys at Works Playground in Entebbe.
Kiyinda took the lead in the 20th minute through Ambrose Kigozi’s spectacular long-range strike, but Gaddafi responded early in the second half when Davis Kasirye pounced on a goalkeeping error to equalise.
Gaddafi pushed for a winner, but Kiyinda’s defense stood firm. The result sees Gaddafi slip to third place on 31 points, level with Blacks Power but behind on head-to-head record.
With just nine matches left in the season, the race for promotion to the Uganda Premier League remains wide open.
