Oilers Start Title Defence Against Rivals Namblazers

The 2025 National Basketball League (NBL) season is set to tip off in thrilling fashion this Friday as defending champions City Oilers face fierce rivals Namuwongo Blazers in a highly anticipated showdown at the Lugogo arena.

Action will be broadcast live on NBS Sport and the AfroMobile platform.

According to the released first-round fixtures, the 2025 season officially begins this Friday with holders JKL Lady Dolphins and JT Lady Jaguars in the opening women’s game at the Lugogo arena before City Oilers start their title defense against rivals Namuwongo Blazers in the men’s action.

City Oilers, who have dominated the league with ten consecutive titles and enter the new season with confidence having bolstered their squad with Bolton Rujjumba, Edgar Munaaba, Joseph Chuma (Nam Blazers), Emmanuel Okumu, and Germaine Roebuck.

Nam Blazers have also reinforced their squad significantly, having secured former City Oilers stars Jimmy Enabu, James Okello, and Tonny Drilleba. They also added Joel Lukoji and Peter Obleng from KIU Titans, along with Henry Ssebagala and Moses Mugisha from Our Saviour.

Nam Blazers won the first-round of the regular season meeting before City Oilers took the second-round encounter.

The first round of the 2025 NBL season is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, May 11 and action will be broadcast live on NBS SPORT.
