Rox Berry Thrash Defending Champions Mbale to Extend National Pool League Lead

Rox Berry tightened their grip on the Nile Special National Pool League title race with a resounding 18-02 victory over defending champions Mbale Pool Club on Matchday 22, further solidifying their position at the top of the table.

The emphatic away win earned Rox Berry a crucial bonus point, pushing their tally to 71 points, six clear of their nearest challengers, Upper Volta, who sit second with 65 points.

Scrap Buyers, also in the title chase, remain third with 63 points after securing a hard-fought 12-08 victory over Pot-It Pool Club.

Rox Berry’s dominant display against Mbale underscored their championship credentials, with Ssejemba Ibra once again delivering a stellar performance.

His contribution not only propelled his team to victory but also saw him cement his position as the league’s leading scorer with 62 points (12A, 25B, 25C).

Meanwhile, Upper Volta also secured a bonus point after a commanding 16-04 triumph over Nakawa Rangers, ensuring the top three teams maintained their respective positions in the league standings.

Elsewhere, in a closely contested midtable battle that was broadcast live on NBS Sport, E-Play Billiards edged Corporate Shooters 12-08 in an intense encounter.

E-Play Billiards set the pace early, racing to a 3-1 lead through Geoffrey Lutaaya, Farouk Mutumba, and Ivan Sennyonjo.

Although the hosts responded with two frames from Ronald Wana and captain Hassan Mutyaba, E-Play regained control with dominant performances by Herbert Nsamba, Geoffrey Lutaaya, Yahaya Mpindi, and Ivan Sennyonjo.

By halftime, E-Play Billiards led 7-3, and they continued to build on that advantage in the second half. Herbert Mukisa and Ivan Sennyonjo won two frames each, extending their lead to 12-6 with two frames remaining.

Despite their victory, E-Play Billiards fell short of securing the bonus point, which is awarded upon reaching 14 frames.

Corporate Shooters’ Eddie Kawuki and Ronald Wana staged a late fightback, winning the final two frames to deny E-Play the extra point.

With this result, E-Play Billiards sit 10th on the table with 39 points, while Corporate Shooters trail in 11th with 38 points.

As the league edges closer to its climax, Rox Berry’s commanding lead puts them in pole position to clinch the title.

Their latest performance against Mbale sends a strong message to their rivals, while Upper Volta and Scrap Buyers remain in pursuit, hoping for a slip-up from the front-runners.
