Excitement is building as the Wakiso Zone Boys Basketball Championship moves into the quarterfinal stage following an action-packed start to the qualifiers on March 20th and 21st.
Hosted at Elite High School and neighboring Bethel High School, the event showcased the talents of over 20 boys and girls teams competing for a place in the coveted nationals.
Three basketball courts buzzed with energy as 19 boys’ teams competed in group-stage games. Divided into four groups—three consisting of five teams and one of four—each team played multiple games to secure their spot among the top eight.
The competition was fierce, with eight teams emerging victorious and earning their ticket to the national championship slated for May at Bukedea Comprehensive School.
Among the quarterfinalists, Elite High School, Buddo SS, and Mbogo Mixed stand out as formidable contenders, boasting impressive team structures that promise strong challenges ahead. However, the remaining five teams shouldn’t be underestimated.
The quarterfinal matchups are as follows:
- Buddo SS vs Bethany High School
- Kings College Buddo vs Merryland High School
- Elite High School vs St Mary’s Kisubi
- Kisubi High School vs Mbogo Mixed Secondary School
Elite High School head coach, Akech Wuoi, expressed confidence in his team’s readiness, citing rigorous preparation and home advantage as key factors.
“The boys are well prepared and ready to fight for the title. We have had enough training and the team is well motivated. The fact that we are hosting this is also a glorious opportunity because we are playing from home,” Akech shared.
While dates for the quarterfinals and semi-finals remain unconfirmed, fans are already looking forward to the finals set for April 12th, 2025, at the WAKISSHA Resource Center, where the championship victor will be crowned.
