The National Rally Championship is set to make a return to Kayunga District for the first time in nearly four years, with the fifth round of the 2025 season confirmed to take place across the districts of Jinja and Kayunga this July.
The event, organized by the Eastern Motor Club, is partly sponsored by Ntenjeru North Member of Parliament and State Minister for Finance, Hon. Amos Lugoloobi.
His financial backing has been instrumental in reviving the Kayunga leg of the championship, according to rally officials.
“All those big guys are going to be here and we shall watch them. But when those cars are here, you must ensure safety. The cars run faster than a bullet and so, keep a distance and we enjoy,” Hon. Lugoloobi warned, emphasizing the importance of public safety during the high-speed event.

Eastern Motor Club president Kees Kagolo revealed that the support from the minister has enabled the club to extend the rally route to Kayunga, which had been off the calendar since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted sporting events and depleted sponsorship avenues.
“We lost most of our sponsors during the COVID-19 pandemic and most of the businesses are struggling to recover. So when you get sponsorship, as a club, you must take up the opportunity,” said Kagolo.

He further noted that the Kayunga segment will focus mainly on the Ntenjeru North constituency. “Away from being Minister Lugoloobi’s constituency, it is also safer because we found a good number of closed routes,” Kagolo added.
According to Clerk of the Course Jackson Lwanga, the fourth round will begin in Jinja with two stages, while Kayunga will host four sections on the second day of competition.
Leading the 2025 championship standings is seasoned driver Ponsiano Lwakataka, who has claimed back-to-back victories in the first two rounds held in Mbarara and Masaka, respectively.
