Capricorn Eagles Series: Disciplined Bowling Guides Victoria Pearls Past Namibia

Uganda’s national cricket women’s team, the Victoria Pearls secured a narrow 5-run victory over Namibia Women in a tense low-scoring contest played on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, during the ongoing Capricorn Eagles Series.

The win gave Uganda their second triumph of the tournament after a 2-run victory the previous day.

Namibia won the toss and elected to bowl first, a decision that initially paid off as they kept Uganda’s batters in check.

Uganda managed 95 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs, with Rita Musamali (25) and Iloku Esther (23) providing the main contributions in a cautious innings.

Namibia’s bowlers, led by Wilka Mwatile (1/10) and Eveleen Kejarukua (1/15), maintained tight lines to restrict the run flow effectively.

In response, Namibia’s chase started cautiously but lacked momentum throughout.

Green Kayleen anchored the innings with a patient 29 off 36 balls, and Wilka Mwatile added a late 27 off 34, but the hosts struggled to form lasting partnerships.

Key wickets at critical junctures, including the dismissals of Kayleen and Wilka, derailed their pursuit as Namibia finished on 90 for 7 in 19.5 overs, falling just short of their target.

Uganda’s bowlers delivered a disciplined display, with Aweko Consy leading the way with figures of 2 for 10 in her four overs.

She struck early by removing opener Wittmann Sunè for a duck, setting the tone for the innings. Akiteng Sarah and Kulume Phiona Egaru claimed a wicket apiece, while Nakisuuyi Immaculate’s tidy spell (1/17) further applied pressure.

The match hung in the balance until the final overs, but the run-out of Wilka with 12 runs needed off the last six balls proved decisive. Uganda’s fielding and calmness in crunch moments ultimately sealed the win.

Following the result, Thursday, April 10, has been designated a rest day for the teams. Action resumes on Friday at 3 PM Ugandan time as the Capricorn Eagles Series continues.
