Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey will miss the remainder of the season after re-injuring his sprained right finger during his preparation for a return to play.
An MRI confirmed the setback, but the team announced on Wednesday that Maxey is expected to make a full recovery.
The 23-year-old has had an exceptional season, averaging a career-high 26.3 points per game, along with 3.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists.
Maxey emerged as one of the 76ers’ most promising stars following his first All-Star selection and being named the league’s Most Improved Player last season.
Unfortunately, injuries have plagued the team throughout the year.
Maxey has only played 52 games and hasn’t been active since March 3.
Joel Embiid, the former MVP, was sidelined in February to allow his left knee to heal, while Paul George—acquired in the offseason—played just 41 games before being shut down due to groin and knee issues.
