Kawempe Muslim Secondary School emerged as the 2025 Kampala Zone Girls’ Football champions after defeating rivals Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga 2-0 in the final played on Friday afternoon.
The win saw Kawempe Muslim end a two-year losing streak to Uganda Martyrs in the Kampala final, reversing their fortunes in the latest installment of one of the fiercest rivalries in school girls’ football.
Despite their previous dominance in the fixture, Uganda Martyrs failed to find a breakthrough this time.
Without last year’s captain Latifah Nakasi—whose long-range effort had sealed victory in the 2024 final—the defending champions struggled to match Kawempe’s pace and intensity throughout the game.
Kawempe Muslim’s win not only secured bragging rights over their long-time rivals but also reaffirmed their title credentials ahead of next month’s national championships in Bukedea, for which both teams had already qualified.
The two schools remain among the top contenders for the national crown, and a rematch in Bukedea is already being anticipated.
