Four schools from the Lango Zone have secured qualification for the 2025 USSSA National Championships following a competitive showing in the zonal football tournament.
The national event is slated for May, with Ngora District set to host the boys’ competition and Bukedea District designated for the girls’ category.
In the boys’ category, Wisdom High School and Mentor Secondary School have earned their spots after securing semi-final victories. Wisdom High edged Lira Town College 2-0, while Mentor SS mirrored the result with a 2-0 win over Alemere Comprehensive Secondary School.
A third slot remains up for grabs, with Lira Town College and Alemere Comprehensive scheduled to face off in a playoff on Sunday for the final qualification berth.
On the girls’ side, St. Mary Magdalene Girls Secondary School and Acaba Secondary School will represent the Lango Zone at the nationals. St. Mary Magdalene, last year’s zonal finalists, dominated Ogur Secondary School with a resounding 6-0 win.
Defending champions Acaba SS also impressed, beating Adwari SS 2-0 to confirm their return to the national stage.
With national qualification secured, attention now turns to the zonal finals, set for Saturday, April 12, at Ambalal Primary School. In the boys’ final, Mentor SS will meet Wisdom High School, while the girls’ showdown will see St. Mary Magdalene go head-to-head with Acaba SS in a rematch of last year’s final.
The USSSA national championships will bring together top schools from across the country, with high expectations placed on the Lango representatives after their strong performances in the zonal qualifiers.
