Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe Expresses Gratitude Amid Recovery from Pneumonia

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe, who has been pivotal in the club’s resurgence, is currently recovering in hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

The 47-year-old expressed heartfelt thanks to fans and the football community for their “messages and warm wishes,” in a statement shared by the club.

Howe was admitted to hospital late last Friday after experiencing prolonged discomfort. As a result, he was absent from Newcastle’s emphatic 4-1 victory against Manchester United on Sunday, which he watched from his hospital bed.

Assistant manager Jason Tindall dedicated the team’s win to Howe, ensuring it would bring a smile to his face.

In his statement, Howe conveyed deep appreciation for the exceptional care provided by the NHS staff: “I’m immensely grateful for the specialist care I’m receiving and, after a period of recovery, I look forward to being back as soon as possible.”

As Howe continues his recovery, Tindall and Graeme Jones will temporarily helm Newcastle’s upcoming fixtures against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.

The news comes amidst a high point for the Magpies, who sit fourth in the Premier League and remain ambitious for a Champions League spot. Howe’s leadership has been instrumental; under his tenure, Newcastle ended a 70-year domestic trophy drought with a Carabao Cup victory last month.

Since assuming the managerial role in November 2021, Howe has overseen 165 matches, achieving a commendable record of 84 wins, including memorable clashes such as triumphing over Paris St-Germain during the Champions League group stage in 2023-24.
