Brazilian football star Neymar endured another injury setback during Santos’ 2-0 victory over Atletico Mineiro in Wednesday’s Serie A clash.
The 33-year-old was forced off the pitch in tears after just 34 minutes, having sustained a left thigh injury. Neymar had recently returned from a similar issue, appearing as a substitute in Santos’ match against Fluminense last weekend.
The occasion was meant to be celebratory for Neymar, who was wearing a commemorative number 100 shirt to mark his 100th appearance at Vila Belmiro, Santos’ iconic stadium.
However, visible strapping on both legs underscored the ongoing physical challenges he has faced in recent years.
Santos’ win lifted them one point clear of the relegation zone in their first season back in Brazil’s top-flight, with a record of one win, one draw, and two losses from their opening four matches.
Neymar’s setback comes as a blow to the team, which had hoped to build momentum with its star player back in action.
