Uganda has dispatched a 10-member delegation to represent the country at the Marrakech 2025 World Para Athletics Grand Prix, marking a key milestone in the nation’s campaign for qualification to the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
The team—comprising seven athletes, two officials, and one chaperone—was flagged off by Uganda Paralympic Committee President Mpindi Bumaali ahead of their departure on Friday, April 18.
The Grand Prix, scheduled to take place from April 20 to 27 in Morocco, will feature over 400 athletes from 51 countries and serves as a crucial qualifier for the upcoming World Championships in New Delhi.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Mpindi called on the athletes to seize the opportunity and make their mark on the global stage.
“This is not just a championship, it’s a doorway to global opportunities. Go earn those qualifying points for the forthcoming Paralympics in Los Angeles 2028,” he urged.
The athletes selected to carry Uganda’s hopes include Masisa Fred (T11), Oija Fred (AB), Oryema Jonas (T11), Anna Anzoa (T44), Nasur Musar (T46), Prisca Aciro (T46), and Kaddu Venswa (T47).
Head Coach Mutangubya Vincent expressed optimism about the team’s preparedness.
“These athletes are ready. We have been training for one month, and I strongly believe my team is going to deliver,” he stated.
The Uganda Paralympic Committee emphasized the strategic importance of the Marrakech Grand Prix—not only as a qualifying event, but also as a vital exposure opportunity for upcoming para athletes.
