Annet Nakamya Retains Badminton Presidency as New Executive Committee Elected Unopposed

The Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) has elected a new Executive Committee unopposed during its Annual General Meeting held at Kampala Club, ushering in a leadership term focused on structural reforms and grassroots development from 2025 to 2028.

Fifteen delegates from across the country endorsed the new team, with most incumbent members retaining their seats.

Mrs. Annet Nakamya was re-elected as President and vowed to prioritize alignment with Uganda’s recently enacted Sports Act.

“Our immediate focus will be aligning all association activities with the new Sports Act. Compliance is not just a formality but a necessity,” said Nakamya in her first remarks following the announcement.

Returning Officer Semanda Collins confirmed the composition of the new executive, which includes Mr. Hajji Serugo Ali as 1st Vice President, Mr. Kirimunda Ivan as Secretary General, and Haji Buwembo Jamir as Treasurer.

Mr. Mugulumwa Joshua joins as Assistant General Secretary, replacing Nalubega Gorret. Committee members Arinaitwe Davis Karasani and Gilbert Ofoyuru retained their positions, while Steven Mubaya and Joseph Kamagala filled the vacancies left by Sebuufu Yasin and Nankya Zainabu.

The meeting also featured calls for financial integrity from Auditor Gingo Roland, who urged the Executive to uphold discipline in financial management throughout the new term.

James Kasumba, a representative from the National Council of Sports, extended his congratulations to the incoming committee and pledged continued NCS support for improving sports infrastructure nationwide.

Committee Member Arinaitwe Davis Karasani emphasized the association’s ambition to elevate Uganda’s performance at international tournaments, while Mugulumwa Joshua outlined plans to expand the sport’s reach through school-based initiatives.

In a significant financial move, the AGM approved a budget exceeding UGX 1 billion.

Delegates also passed a resolution to raise university registration fees from UGX 200,000 to UGX 1 million.
