Big League: Missed Chances Haunt League Leaders in Stalemate with Kiyinda Boys

By John Baptist Opua

Blacks Power’s hopes of solidifying their push for Premier League promotion were dealt another blow on Sunday evening after being held to a 0-0 draw by a stubborn Kiyinda Boys side at home.

Coming off a 1-1 draw with Kigezi Home Boys in their previous outing, the hosts had been eager to return to winning ways in front of their fans.

However, a series of missed chances and resolute defending from Kiyinda Boys saw them leave the pitch without the breakthrough they so desperately sought.

The result left fans visibly disheartened, with many exiting the stadium in silence, the atmosphere reflecting the weight of two back-to-back underwhelming results.

Hopes had been high for a turnaround, but the inability to convert chances into goals proved costly once again for the league leaders.

Blacks Power dominated large spells of the match but failed to capitalize on their momentum. Strikers Buyala and Maduka found space in the final third but were either wasteful or denied by Kiyinda Boys’ goalkeeper Ssenkoto Martin, who delivered a composed performance between the posts.

Kiyinda Boys, keen to bounce back after a 2-1 loss to Arua Hills FC, executed their defensive game plan effectively.

Led by captain Hussein Kalifah and backed by a disciplined backline, the visitors absorbed pressure and limited Blacks Power to speculative efforts. The draw earned them a valuable point on the road and reinforced their competitiveness in the StarTimes FUFA Big League.

Despite the stalemate, Blacks Power remains at the summit of the table with 39 points from 20 matches, narrowly ahead of Buhimba United Saints, who trail by a single point after 21 games. Kiyinda Boys, meanwhile, remain sixth with 30 points from 22 outings.

Next up for Blacks Power is a crucial fixture against Onduparaka FC, who currently sit 10th with 25 points. The match is expected to be a pivotal moment in the title race as the season enters its final stretch.
