Kobe Bryant’s jersey from his 1996 Los Angeles Lakers debut sold for $7 million (£5.26m) at auction, BBC Sport reports.
This makes it the fourth-most expensive game-worn sports jersey ever.
Worn during his rookie 1996-1997 season, the jersey’s value soared from its $115,242 sale in 2013, prior to Bryant’s death.
Sotheby’s noted the unique significance of debut game memorabilia.
Babe Ruth’s $24m “called shot” jersey tops the list, followed by Michael Jordan’s $10.1m “Last Dance” jersey and Diego Maradona’s $8.8m “Hand of God” shirt.
Bryant debuted against the Minnesota Timberwolves on November 3, 1996.
He went on to an 18-time all-star career, scoring 33,643 points, placing him fourth in NBA history.
