Arnaldi Stuns Idol Djokovic in Madrid Open Upset

Matteo Arnaldi, a relatively unknown Italian, shocked three-time champion Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-4 in the Madrid Open second round.

The 24-year-old called Djokovic his “idol” and was “glad” to play him.

The loss marks a third straight defeat for the 37-year-old Djokovic, who admitted his “level of tennis is not where I would like it to be” and hinted this might be his last Madrid appearance as a player.

Meanwhile, British players Cameron Norrie, Jacob Fearnley, and Jack Draper all progressed to the next round.
