Jacob Kiplimo Declares Readiness Ahead of London Marathon Debut

Jacob Kiplimo has said he feels ready to make his full marathon debut at the London Marathon this Sunday, as he prepares to line up alongside some of the sport’s greatest athletes, including Eliud Kipchoge.

“I can say I am ready,” Kiplimo stated during a press conference ahead of the race.

The 23-year-old Ugandan, who holds the world record for the half marathon, will step up to 42.195km for the first time in his career.

Despite the challenge ahead, Kiplimo expressed confidence in his preparation and fitness, indicating he is eager to test himself at one of the world’s most prestigious races.

Reflecting on the lineup, Kiplimo pointed to his history with Kipchoge, recalling how he helped pace the Kenyan during the Ineos 1:59 Challenge in 2019.

“I remember 2019, when I was pacing Kipchoge,” he said. “So for me it is a little bit amazing to compete with one of the greatest runners in history.”

Kiplimo’s entry adds another layer of intrigue to the men’s elite race, which already features a strong field.

With his half marathon credentials and assured outlook, Kiplimo’s performance will be closely watched as he makes the transition to the full distance.

The 2024 London Marathon will take place on Sunday, 27 April.
