The Edgbaston Priory Club has reinforced its commitment to global squash development with a significant donation of equipment to the Uganda Squash Rackets Association (USRA), marking a milestone in international sports cooperation.
The UK-based club handed over a consignment comprising squash rackets, balls, training gear, and apparel in a ceremony held in Birmingham. Uganda’s High Commissioner to the UK, Her Excellency Namisha Madhvani, received the equipment on behalf of the USRA.
“This donation is part of our ongoing commitment to ensure that more people, regardless of where they live, have the opportunity to experience and enjoy squash,” said Asif Chaudry, representing Edgbaston Priory Club. “We are ready to do whatever it takes to make this vision a reality.”
The partnership aims to broaden access to squash in Uganda and enhance the standard of play, particularly through grassroots development and improved support for local players and training centers.
USRA representative Shifah Nantambi welcomed the contribution, calling it “a transformative moment for squash in Uganda.” She added, “The support from Edgbaston Priory Club will not only enhance our training programs but also uplift the competitive spirit of our players.”
The collaboration arrives as the USRA intensifies efforts to popularize the sport and provide young athletes with more opportunities to compete locally and internationally. With better equipment now available, the association plans to scale up training and outreach initiatives.
Both parties have pledged to explore further joint efforts, including training camps and tournaments, to sustain the momentum.
The USRA has described the donation as a symbol of solidarity and a boost to its vision of becoming a competitive squash force in Africa.
