Preparing to defend her Rome title, world No. 2 Iga Swiatek on Tuesday attributed her lack of a 2025 title to the pressures of perfectionism.
Despite reaching at least the quarterfinals in every tournament this year, the Pole has yet to reach a final.
“This year I feel like I am struggling a bit more with my perfectionism,” Swiatek said, noting a “love-and-hate relationship” with the trait.
She explained that recalling past successes sometimes leads to poor decisions, as her current form doesn’t always align with those memories.
Reflecting on her recent 6-1, 6-1 semifinal loss to Coco Gauff in Madrid, Swiatek admitted to struggling with focus and movement.
However, looking ahead to the French Open, she remained pragmatic. “It’s just like one day. You can’t judge everything by it. I’m continuing the work… I trust the process.”
While acknowledging her desire to win tournaments, Swiatek expressed pride in her consistency this season.
