Akena Applauds Vivo Energy’s Continued Support for Uganda Motorsport

The Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) has welcomed the renewed sponsorship deal between Vivo Energy Uganda and the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, as the company confirmed a UGX 100 million package for the 2025 edition of the event.

Speaking at the official sponsorship launch on Tuesday in Kampala, FMU President Hon. Jimmy Akena praised the consistency and impact of Vivo Energy’s support over the years.

Akena Welcomes KCB Boost, Says Rally Investment Key for Drivers’ Growth

KCB is New Uganda National Rally Championship Title Sponsor

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Vivo Energy Uganda for the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally. Their steadfast support has been instrumental in the growth and success of motorsport in Uganda,” Akena said.

The Pearl of Africa Rally, which will run from May 9 to 11 in Mbarara City, remains a major fixture on Uganda’s sports calendar and is part of the African Rally Championship (ARC) circuit.

Akena credited Vivo Energy with elevating the rally’s stature and contributing to its professionalization.

“Year after year, they’ve helped elevate the rally to new heights, bringing professionalism, visibility, and crucial funding that fuels both the event and the sport at large,” he noted.

The FMU president also acknowledged Vivo Energy’s continued sponsorship of rally driver Ronald Sebuguzi, highlighting the importance of long-term investment in individual athletes as a catalyst for sustained growth in the sport.

With Shell V-Power serving as the official fuel for the event, this year’s rally promises to deliver high performance and excitement for both competitors and spectators.

The FMU is encouraging motorsport fans across the country and the continent to travel to Mbarara and take part in what is expected to be one of the season’s most thrilling motorsport experiences.

The federation also issued a call for responsible enjoyment, urging all rally attendees to adhere to safety protocols and official guidelines throughout the event weekend.
