With Uganda’s sports content growing faster than ever before, Andrew Kabuura, the Head of Sports Broadcast at Next Media, has hinted on a possible expansion of NBS Sport.
Speaking during the launch of The State of Ugandan Sport platform at Next Media Park, Kabuura revealed that the channel is moving toward a broader and more inclusive coverage model.
This expansion, he noted, aims to cater for the increasing sports content in the country.
“When we launched as a 24/7 sports channel in 2022, the big question was whether there would be enough content to fill the airwaves,” Kabuura remarked.
“Now, the issue is the opposite; we have more content than we can carry on one platform.”
This content explosion, he explained, has created the need for not just expanded programming, but also a technological upgrade in both hardware and software.
The expansion hints were dropped alongside the launch of The State of Ugandan Sport, a national symposium, first of which will be scheduled for June 17th and 18th.
The symposiums will be aimed at uniting athletes, coaches, administrators, and fans under one roof for open, strategic dialogue.
The platform will feature morning masterclasses and afternoon panel sessions, designed to build skills and assess Uganda’s progress in sports.
Among the stakeholders in attendance were FUBA President Nasser Sserunjoji, Paul Wasike of the Pool Association of Uganda and KCCA TV’s Joshua Nagenda
Obal Atubo of Red Rhino Agency and Head – Organising Committee University Football League, Barnabas Sebuyungo from the Dance Sport Federation, and Anthony Tumwesigye, delegate for Beach Soccer Uganda were also in attendance.
Kabuura underscored that NBS Sport’s role is not just to broadcast events, but to champion Ugandan sport at every level.
The hinted expansion, coupled with the symposium’s collaborative spirit, marks a pivotal moment where media and sport intersect to power sustainable, inclusive growth.
