Stakeholders Hail ‘State of Ugandan Sport’ as a Platform to Drive Development and Inclusion

Uganda’s sporting fraternity has given a resounding endorsement to the newly launched State of Ugandan Sport platform, calling it a long-overdue space for strategic reflection, learning, and unified growth across the sector.

NBS Sport, on Friday morning officially launched The State of Ugandan Sport, a dynamic platform designed to inspire collaboration, accountability, and qualitative growth across all disciplines.

Speaking at the launch at Next Media Park, Obal Atubo of Red Rhino Agency, and head of the University Football League organising committee, welcomed the initiative as a critical platform to engage Uganda’s youth; who make up the majority of the population, through sport.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to drive engagement and accountability,” Atubo said.

“Take university football, for instance. It began in 2012 with a few institutions. Today, we have 24 universities involved. That growth is promising, and initiatives like this will help us improve both structurally and competitively.”

The State of Ugandan Sport will start with a two-day symposium, scheduled for June 17–18, featuring masterclasses in athlete development, sports branding, wellness, and leadership, followed by panel discussions with experts from various disciplines.

Federation leaders in attendance echoed the same enthusiasm, calling for inclusive and transparent dialogue to fuel growth.

FUBA president Nasser Sserunjoji, Dance Sport’s Barnabas Sebuyungo, Beach Soccer’s Anthony Tumwesigye, KCCA TV’s Joshua Nagenda, and Paul Wasike from the Pool Association were among the sports stakeholders in attendance.

Andrew Kabuura, the Head of Sports Broadcast at Next Media, stressed that the platform represents NBS’s deeper commitment to the sports ecosystem.

“We want this to be where athletes, fans, federations, and media come together to redefine how sport works in Uganda,” he said.

The platform is also expected to feature interactive audience engagement forums and a celebration of sporting excellence, recognising athletes, institutions, and backroom contributors driving progress in Uganda’s sports ecosystem.
