A joyous night in Algiers turned to tragedy as three fans died and dozens were injured after falling from a security barrier at the 5 July Stadium.
The incident occurred just after local team MC Alger secured their second consecutive league title.
The Algerian Health Ministry confirmed the fatalities, stating that the three individuals died after falling from the upper stands onto the lower tier.
Local media reports indicate a security barrier collapsed under the pressure of fans celebrating MC Alger’s 0-0 draw against NC Magra.
More than 70 people received treatment, with most since discharged.
Players and staff from MC Alger have reportedly donated blood to the injured.
The trophy presentation has been postponed, and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has offered his condolences and wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured.
