The Buganda Kingdom has concluded the first-ever Kabaka’s Coronation Badminton Championship, drawing 457 participants across juniors, seniors, corporates, and professional categories.
The three-day event ran from Friday to Sunday and marked badminton’s debut in the annual Coronation Games, alongside rugby.
Professional players competed in team events, while the other categories featured individual contests.
Despite the scheduling challenges posed by school examinations and preparations for the FEASSA Games in Kakamega, Kenya, participation remained strong, with schools such as Kibuli SS, Mbogo High, Kinaawa High, and Rubaga Girls represented.
The championship also featured national and international talent, highlighted by Shamika Fadira of Victoria University and Tracy Naluwooza of Ndejje University.
Both will represent Uganda at the World Badminton Championship in France starting on August 28.
