Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has admitted that both he and Lewis Hamilton were “naive” in their expectations for the British driver’s move to the team.
Vasseur stated they “underestimated the change to a different environment” after Hamilton’s long tenure with Mercedes and McLaren.
Hamilton has had a difficult start to the 2025 season, often struggling to match teammate Charles Leclerc.
The seven-time champion even called himself “useless” after a disappointing P12 qualifying result at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Despite the struggles, Vasseur defended Hamilton, explaining that his performance has been closer to Leclerc’s than it appears, often due to bad luck.
He also noted that since the Canadian Grand Prix, Hamilton has been making positive progress.
