The Kampala International University (KIU) Titans are determined to even the score in the National Basketball League (NBL) finals series after falling short in a close game one against the City Oilers on Wednesday.
The rematch takes place tonight, Friday, August 30th, at 9:00 PM EAT at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
Despite a valiant effort, fatigue and a few crucial mistakes hampered the Titans in the first game, resulting in a 70-61 defeat.
However, the team remains optimistic and is looking to capitalize on the positives from their performance.
Head Coach Julius Lutwama acknowledged the challenges faced in game one but expressed confidence in his team’s ability to bounce back.
He highlighted the importance of minimizing errors and implementing a defensive strategy to neutralize City Oilers’ standout player, Petty Parish, who significantly impacted the previous game.
The Titans received a much-needed boost with the return of key players who battled minor injuries in the opener.
Guard Joel Lukoji Banza and Forward Edgar Munaba are back in action, bolstering the team’s depth.
Additionally, center Ivan Lumanyika is expected to see more playing time after impressing with his first double-double of the season.
Encouragingly, fan favorite Pierre Kasereka Tembo, who exited game one with arm pain, has recovered and is poised to contribute offensively.
Likewise, Juf Mpiya, who struggled in the previous game, is expected to bounce back after showcasing improved form during training. High-flying guard Peter Obleng is also available and looks to replicate his impressive performances.
A victory tonight would be crucial for the Titans, keeping their championship hopes alive and setting the stage for a potential series lead come Sunday’s game three.
