New Era Begins: Kampala Queens Hire First-Ever Foreign Head Coach

Kampala Queens, the 2022/23 Finance Trust Bank Women’s Super League champions, have made headlines with their latest managerial appointment.

Asefa Firew Hailegebreal, a respected Ethiopian football coach and former head of the Ethiopian Women’s National Team, has been unveiled as their new head coach on a two-year deal.

This appointment not only follows Charles Ayiekoh’s recent resignation but also represents a historic milestone, Hailegebreal becomes the first foreign coach to lead a club in Ugandan women’s football.

Hailegebreal brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective, positioning Kampala Queens as a club willing to push boundaries and elevate the quality of women’s football in Uganda.

His strategic expertise and understanding of the African women’s football landscape are expected to strengthen the team’s performance as they seek to reclaim their title.

Hailegebreal’s first test with the Queens is scheduled for Saturday, November 9, when they host the newly promoted Amus College at Lugogo Stadium.

This matchup marks the beginning of what Kampala Queens fans hope will be another successful campaign under new leadership.
