Jurgen Klopp has faced sharp criticism after questioning Julian Nagelsmann’s team selection before Germany’s 7-1 win over Curacao at the 2026 World Cup.
The former Liverpool boss, now a pundit, joked “luckily, Julian Nagelsmann is still picking the team – for now.”
Germany legends Lothar Matthaeus and Stefan Effenberg condemned the remark, calling it disrespectful and “unacceptable.”
Klopp later apologised, saying: “I could have slapped myself across the face for saying that. It just slipped out casually – it has absolutely no significance.”
Nagelsmann brushed off the row, noting: “Germany has plenty of experts… they can talk about whatever they want.”
