Interim Manchester United manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has expressed his support for incoming manager Ruben Amorim, offering his assistance to ensure a smooth transition.
Amorim, the highly-rated Sporting Lisbon boss, is set to take the reins at Old Trafford next week.
Van Nistelrooy, who has been temporarily filling in for the sacked Erik ten Hag, oversaw a mixed bag of results, including a 5-2 Carabao Cup victory over Leicester City and a 1-1 Premier League draw against Chelsea.
Despite the short-term managerial role, the former striker remains optimistic about the club’s future.
“I’m open to helping in any capacity,” Van Nistelrooy stated. “We all want to help Manchester United get back to where it belongs. I look forward to getting to know Amorim better. He’s a talented coach who has done great things at Sporting Lisbon.”
“We have a good foundation to build on,” he said. “With the right spirit and hard work, we can improve our position in the league.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed his frustration with the decision not to send off Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez for a dangerous tackle on Cole Palmer.
Maresca argued that the challenge was reckless and deserved a red card.
