Omedi Reportedly in Morocco: Is CAF Glory Within Reach?

Uganda Cranes and Kitara forward Denis Omedi has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ugandans following his sixth-place finish in the CAF Goal of the Year award race.

In a tweet after the awards ceremony, Omedi celebrated the milestone, describing it as a historic achievement for himself and Ugandan football.

“Special thanks to the multitudes who voted for me for this coveted award. Albeit the fact that we didn’t win it, we made history regardless. I believe this is just the beginning of greater things to come,” Omedi wrote, adding a verse from Jeremiah 29:11 to emphasize his faith in the future.

Omedi’s nomination for his audacious rabona strike against KCCA in the FUFA Super 8 marked a historic moment, as it showcased a Ugandan footballer on one of Africa’s grandest stages.

While the CAF Goal of the Year accolade went to Angola’s Cristovao Mabululu, Omedi’s achievement of finishing among Africa’s top footballers with 13,766 votes is being hailed as a significant milestone for Ugandan football.

His tweet resonated with fans and football enthusiasts alike, many of whom praised Omedi for putting Uganda on the map with his brilliance on the pitch.

Omedi, who is also a nominee for the FIFA Puskás Award, remains optimistic about what lies ahead.

His rabona goal continues to captivate global audiences, with the Puskás Award offering him yet another chance to etch his name in football history.

Voting for the FIFA Puskás Award remains open, and can be done through this link: https://www.fifa.com/en/watch/dXKI6AhEN0qjG3aynCPJnw
