The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the draw procedure for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 Final Draw happening today Wednesday, January 15th, 2025.
The Final Draw will be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Kenya starting at 8 PM and will be live on NBS Sport.
Nineteen nations will participate in the draw, including co-hosts Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, the defending champions Senegal, and sixteen qualifiers. Two qualifiers are yet to be determined through upcoming matches.
The qualified teams are divided into zones as follows:
- CECAFA: Kenya (co-host), Uganda (co-host), Tanzania (co-host), Sudan
- WAFU A: Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania
- WAFU B: Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria
- UNIFFAC: Central African Republic, Congo, DR Congo
- COSAFA: Angola, Madagascar, Zambia
- UNAF: Morocco
The co-hosts, Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, will be seeded in Groups A, B, and C, placed in positions A1, B1, and C1, respectively.
The defending champions, Senegal, will be the top seed in Group D, occupying position D1.
The remaining teams will be distributed into three pots based on their performances in the past three CHAN tournaments.
The teams will be drawn from their respective pots into Groups A, B, C, and D, following a specific order:
- Pot A: Morocco, Niger, Congo, Madagascar
- Pot B: Mauritania, Guinea, Sudan, Angola
- Pot C: DR Congo, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Qualifier 1, Qualifier 2
Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 represent the two teams that will emerge from the second qualifier tournament.
The draw procedure will follow this format:
- Teams from Pot A will be drawn one by one, assigned to positions A2, B2, C2, and D2 in their respective groups.
- The same process will be repeated for Pots B and C, assigning teams to remaining positions within Groups A, B, C, and D.
