Uganda’s rugby sevens teams are set to compete in the opening rounds of the HSBC Sevens Challenger 2025, which will take place at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on March 1-2 and 7-8.
The tournament, designed to enhance the global growth of rugby sevens, will feature 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams from all six World Rugby regions.
The Ugandan men’s team has been drawn into Pool C alongside rugby sevens powerhouse Samoa and Brazil, setting up a tough test in their quest for progression.
Meanwhile, Uganda’s women’s team will compete in Pool C against Belgium and Colombia. Both teams earned their place in the competition through strong performances in regional qualifiers.
The Challenger format mirrors the recent HSBC SVNS Cape Town tournament, with pool winners advancing directly to the semi-finals.
Second-placed teams will compete for fifth to eighth places, while third-placed teams will battle for ninth to twelfth positions.
The top eight teams in both the men’s and women’s categories after the Cape Town rounds will advance to the final stage in Krakow, Poland, on April 11-12.
The four best-performing teams at the end of the series will earn a chance to qualify for the HSBC SVNS Play-Off in Los Angeles on May 3-4.
Uganda’s campaign kicks off on March 1 at 10:00 local time (11 AM EAT), with the finals set for the evening of March 2.
