Despite victory being the priority for any sportsperson in every competition, Duncan Mubiru holds a different story.
One of Uganda’s fastest and most entertaining rally drivers, Mubiru says that his fans’ delight comes before victory when he takes to the routes for rallying.
Speaking ahead of the 2025 Pearl of Africa Uganda rally, Mubiru, known as Kikankane in the rally circles, told NBS Sport that his satisfaction and the end of any event is giving his fans total enjoyment.
“I go for two things; firstly my fans’ pleasure and my personal enjoyment. I want to win but enjoyment comes first. I get satisfied when I see my fans in enjoyment and myself even when I do not come out winner,” noted the jovial speed merchant, who made his rallying debut in 2009 driving in a Mitsubishi Evo 5 he acquired from Ronald Sebuguzi.

Away from his rallying hobby, Duncan has an unmeasurable love for rally cars. By 2021, Duncan had upgraded to Mitsubishi Evo 10 but he eventually switched to Subaru after acquiring the Subaru Impreza N14 that had formerly belonged to Emma Kato and Desh Kananura.
He added a Subaru Impreza N12B he bought from Charles Muhangi – the only Ugandan to have won the Africa rally championship.
He acquired another Subaru in 2014. This time, a TMR Subaru Impreza STI Spec C from AMC Racing Cyprus before switching back to Mitsubishi, having acquired a Ralliart Evo X.

By 2016, Duncan had a new beast, an Evo X from KG Motorsports.
In 2018, he got an Evo X R4 from Desh Kananura before securing a Subaru Impreza GVB from Kenya in 2021 which was the first of its kind in Uganda.
In 2022, the soft spoken driver imported a Ford Fiesta NRC Proto from Latvia, built by Neiksans Rally Sport.
This is the machine that he will cruise in this year’s Pearl of Africa rally due May 8-10 in Mbarara district.
