Kenya Legends by Nondies are on their third tour of Uganda whose main event, the Legends Cup match against their Uganda Legends counterparts, was on Saturday afternoon.
The match was played in front of a capacity crowd at Kyadondo Rugby Club.
For the fifth successive time since the Legends Cup series began in 2023, Kenya were successful. They edged Uganda by 19-17 in an equal parts entertaining and bruising encounter.
Uganda led first— also for the first time since the series started— through a Davis Kyewalabye penalty in the twelfth minute.
Then Kenya responded just before the half-hour mark through a George Asin try and a Darwin Mukidza conversion.
From that moment on, the visitors were ahead on the scoreboard. Curtis Lilako and John Allan scored a try apiece and Mukidza added one conversion to make it 19-03 by the forty-seventh minute.
Uganda attempted a comeback with tries from Lawrence Ssebuliba and Kyewalabye. Chris Lubanga converted easily for a 19-17 score with a full thirty minutes left to play.
Both teams, with, as expected, tired legs and sore shoulders, played their hearts out to the applauding fans until the final whistle.
The 19-17 score did not change as Kenya held on for the victory.
Uganda had the chance to win it at the death but a missed Kyewalabye penalty meant their wait for a maiden series victory continues.
After the match, the franchises were hosted to a dinner and prize-giving ceremony at Kyadondo.
