A brace from new signing Joao Pedro secured Chelsea’s spot in the FIFA Club World Cup final, as they defeated Brazilian side Fluminense 2-0.
The 23-year-old, on his full debut against his boyhood club, opened the scoring in the 18th minute, curling in a shot after a clearance error.
He sealed the victory in the 56th minute with a powerful strike that hit the crossbar and went in.
The £55 million signing from Brighton quickly began to repay his fee, adding to Chelsea’s significant tournament earnings.
Despite other chances for Chelsea and a disallowed Fluminense penalty after a VAR review, the Blues looked comfortable throughout.
The only concern was a late ankle injury to Moises Caicedo.
Chelsea will now face either Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday’s final, with the prospect of lifting a major trophy and securing nearly £100 million in earnings.
