FUFA 3rd Vice President Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi says the new bonus system for the 2025/26 StarTimes Uganda Premier League is a major step toward professionalising the local game.
Speaking as FUFA unveiled its partnership with World Planet Communications to handle Man of the Match and locker room payments, Nakiwala stressed that rewarding players promptly is central to lifting standards.
“This partnership and the bonus structure are part of FUFA’s broader efforts to professionalise Ugandan football,” she said. “Players deserve quick, transparent rewards for their performances and this arrangement delivers exactly that.”
Under the plan, Man of the Match winners will receive 100,000 shillings in the first round, 200,000 in the second and 500,000 in the third, with a total budget of 74 million shillings. Locker room bonuses will be 80,000 per player in round two and 150,000 in round three, totaling 444 million.
World Planet Communications will deposit the money on players’ mobile accounts within 24 hours of each match, while clubs must submit MTN Mobile Money details for all licensed players and officials.
Nakiwala said the system shows FUFA’s commitment to “treating players like true professionals” and called it a model for future league improvements.
