F1 Driver Lawson Narrowly Avoids Fatal Crash with Marshals in Mexico

Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson has condemned a safety breach during Sunday’s Mexico City Grand Prix, revealing he came “so close” to hitting two marshals who ran across the track moments after he rejoined the race on lap three.

The Racing Bulls driver, who had just pitted to replace his front wing, radioed his team immediately, stating: “I could have… killed them.”

Lawson called the event “unacceptable,” adding he had “never experienced that before” and demanding an explanation.

Formula 1’s governing body, the FIA, confirmed it is investigating the incident.

The FIA stated that marshals were on standby to clear debris but instructions to send them out were “rescinded” and a double yellow flag was displayed once it was known Lawson had pitted.

The body is now investigating what happened after that instruction was given.
