Uganda’s Magic Stormers put up a commendable fight but fell 55–68 to Tanzania’s Fox Basketball Club in their second game at the ongoing FIBA Women’s Basketball League Africa Zone 5 Qualifiers in Nairobi.
After forfeiting their opening match to Burundi’s Gladiators, the Stormers returned with renewed energy at Nyayo Stadium, pushing Fox for much of the game despite missing Hope Akello.
Christine Namyalo led the charge with 18 points, supported by Sylvia Nakituuka and Joy Mupalia, who contributed 10 points each. Angella Auma added 9 points as the Ugandan side showed depth and improvement in their play.
Fox, led by Merycyana Mashauri’s 18 points, remained composed under pressure. Ugandan forward Evelyn Nakiyingi added 11 points against her compatriots, while Noela Renatus scored 12 to secure the win.
The Stormers’ best moments came in the second quarter, which they won 16–14, but turnovers and missed opportunities in the third period proved costly. Despite the loss, the team’s fighting spirit stood out.
The team will look to build on their performance in upcoming fixtures against Rwanda’s REG and Kenya’s Zetech Sparks as they aim for a place in the final round of the continental championship.
