Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says his side must improve despite securing a 1-0 win over Ghana in their final friendly before the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
A second-half strike from Sipho Mbule sealed the victory, but Broos felt his players were holding back to avoid pre-tournament injuries.
“I think we can do much better than today,” Broos noted. “Maybe the tournament next week is already playing in the heads of the players… but I am not worried.”
The squad will be bolstered in Morocco by the arrival of Lyle Foster, Shandre Campbell, and Siphephelo Sithole, who were delayed by club duties.
South Africa kicks off their Group B campaign against Angola in Marrakesh on Monday, December 22 (7:00 PM SA time).
Bafana will also face Egypt and Zimbabwe in the opening stage.
While the performance was muted, Broos remains confident that the return of his key stars and final training sessions in Marrakesh will have the team ready for their opener.
